A groundbreaking study published in PLOS ONE reveals that climate change, population pressure, and war were deeply intertwined in pre-Columbian societies of the Central Andes over a span of 1,000 years. Though rooted in the past, the study's implications are disturbingly relevant. It offers a roadmap for understanding how future climate change may trigger conflict, especially in areas where population growth collides with shrinking resources.

Key recommendations from the researchers include:

  3. Develop early-warning systems based on demographic pressure and water availability.
