Who We Are

Español

Horizontes Científicos is the digital science communication platform of the Asociación Ambiente y Foresta Perú (A&FPerú). Our mission is to bring recent scientific findings closer to the Spanish-speaking public —with rigor and clarity— linking academic evidence to its implications for public policy, communities, and decision-makers.

What We Do

  • We select and translate peer-reviewed studies and technical reports into accessible language, relevant to both the region and the world.
  • We contextualize scientific results by explaining their scope, limitations, and potential practical applications.
  • We promote informed debate on critical issues such as Amazon conservation, forest restoration, the energy transition, and the responsible development of technologies like artificial intelligence.

Why You Can Trust Us — Our Strengths

  1. Scientific rigor: all our articles are based on peer-reviewed academic literature, ensuring accuracy and traceability of information.
  2. Editorial transparency and ethics: we publish a Declaration of Principles that guides our work toward truthfulness, responsible contextualization, and the avoidance of sensationalism.
  3. Open license: most of our content is published under a Creative Commons BY 4.0 license, facilitating dissemination and reuse with proper attribution.
  4. Regional focus with a global perspective: we combine international research with studies specific to Peru and the Amazon, offering analyses that are locally relevant and globally comparative.
  5. Clarity and accessibility: we explain complex concepts in a clear, engaging format suitable for general audiences, without sacrificing technical accuracy.
  6. Practical responsibility: beyond summarizing results, we highlight political and social implications, helping science inform public and community decisions.
  7. Accountable and identifiable team: all our pieces credit their authors and cite original sources, ensuring verifiability and editorial responsibility.

How We Work

  • We start from primary evidence: selecting recent studies, verifying DOIs and sources, and presenting summaries that include relevant methodological limitations.
  • We add regional context: when appropriate, we contrast findings with local data and research to assess their applicability in Peru and Latin America.
  • We foster openness: we promote the availability of knowledge and the responsible use of our content through open licenses and proper attribution.
  • We continuously improve: we incorporate technical recommendations (clear metadata, multimedia accessibility, and link verifiability) to enhance editorial quality.

Editorial Principles

We are guided by ethical and professional standards: truthfulness, transparency, attribution, clarity of communication, methodological rigor, and commitment to the public interest. These principles are published and open to review.

Invitation

If you are a researcher, policymaker, educator, or citizen interested in applied science, we invite you to read, reuse (with attribution), and discuss our content.
